Registered Tax Agents
Registered tax agents are able to provide guidance and assistance for both individuals and businesses when it comes to the notoriously difficult tax refunds or tax returns.
Registered tax agents are professionals registered with the Australian Taxation Office and are able to charge a fee in return for the preparation of tax refunds, income tax returns, objections in tax issues and to act on behalf of a client when transacting business with the taxation office.
When hiring a registered tax agent, there are a number of services a client can expect including the tax agent lodging returns and documents, responding to phone calls or letters to the taxation office on your behalf, passing on correspondence and releasing documents on request unless you have a lawful reason to retain them. Registered tax agents are able to offer a range of services assisting people with their tax forms and issues with the Australian Taxation Office outlining registered tax agents responsibilities as remaining up to date with changes in taxation laws and practice, acting as a liaison between clients and the Australian Taxation Office and meeting all requirements necessary for registration as a tax agent.
Services that most registered tax agents will provide can include Taxation Planning, GST compliance including pay as you go withholding variations, concurrent BAS/IAS preparation, and all preparations of taxation returns for individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts and superannuation funds. Additionally, some registered tax agents will also be able to offer accountancy services that can assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, business planning, budgets, projections and cash flows for both individuals and businesses.
When working with a registered tax agent on a tax file or taxation issue it is important to note that the client's signature must be present on a signed declaration before any legal documents are submitted on behalf of the client. This declaration will outline that the client gives permission for the documents to be submitted to the Commissioner of Taxation and that all information is true and correct. Registered tax agents should never ask a client to sign a blank or incomplete returns or declarations.
